What is intersectional harassment?

Intersectional harassment occurs when an individual is targeted for harassment due to their multiple marginalized identities, such as race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or religion. This type of harassment can compound the discrimination and mistreatment that a person experiences, as they may be targeted for multiple aspects of their identity simultaneously.

Intersectional harassment can manifest in various forms, including verbal abuse, physical violence, cyberbullying, and discrimination in employment, housing, or education. It often reflects and reinforces systemic power imbalances and prejudices within society.

Those who experience intersectional harassment may face unique challenges in seeking support or redress, as existing systems and policies may fail to adequately address the intersectional nature of their experiences. Organizations and institutions need to recognize and address intersectional harassment to create safer and more inclusive environments for all individuals.
